A decibel reading can catch your eye, but it cannot tell the whole story of a disturbance. Before choosing a device, decide what you need to find later: a live level, a history, dated events or a room-by-room view.
Live reading or event history?
A live display answers “what level is shown now?” An event history helps you see when a sound occurred and whether it returned. These are different jobs and call for different interfaces.
Check what a displayed value means: measurement method, precision and calibration conditions. Comparing numbers without that context can mislead.
Ask about privacy
Find out where data is stored, who can access it, how long it stays and whether any audio is kept. You cannot infer those answers from an app mockup.
